History
Nacido en Villarrubia de la Serena (Badajoz) en 1913, Benitez Rufo había sido militante de la JSU y capitán del Ejército republicano durante la guerra civil. Fue encarcelado entre 1946 y 1953, dedicándose a partir de entonces a organizar clandestinamente el PCE de la región andaluza. En 1978 fue nombrado presidente del comité regional del PCE, siendo igualmente miembro de sus comités central y ejecutivo.
